Just past Abu Zenima is a track sign posted to Serabit al-Khadim , an old turquoise mine and Pharaonic temple remains. The temple dates back to the 12th dynasty and it is dedicated to the Hathor the goddess of love, family and crops. You can get to Serabit al-Khadim from the road through Wadi Feiran via Wadi Mukattab. Here is Sinai's largest collection of rock inscriptions, some of them dating back from the 3rd dynasty.
From here, you can get to Gebel Foga, to the cliffs that edge Gebel el-Tih and to the forest of pillars which is accessible only by 4WD and camel. Keep in mind that all these destinations need a guide. If you are traveling in your own vehicle, you can go to Sheikh Barakat village and get your own guide. To get here from Ras Sudr, follow the marked track that leads off into the desert, just south from Abu Zenima, for about 39 km. When you see a white dome on your right , take the track to your left. After about 3 km you will arrive at Sheikh Barakat. There you can camp or find a guide to go further. Remember that the track up the mountain involves climbing but it can be handled by almost anyone in a good physical condition. Keep in mind that you will need a 4WD , so try to find a guide who has one.
